CALMER CLASSROOMS GOES ONLINE WITH DRML
New DRML service enables Calmer Classrooms to package, sell, license and distribute product online securely and at low cost
Music production company Calmer Classrooms announced today that teachers, parents and employers concerned about stress will now be able to download its music via the internet. The new download service follows a successful trial of the company's range of music CDs, designed primarily to reduce disruptive behaviour and aid concentration in the classroom.
Calmer Classrooms is one of the first organisations to use a new distribution service and proprietary digital rights management technology provided by UK start-up Digital Rights Management Ltd (DRML). The service enables owners of any kind of property that can be downloaded - such as music, film, photography, literature and games - to sell on-line at low cost with automated branding, packaging and licence protection.
Customers benefit from instant access and downloading is easy, with the ability to choose the download file format of choice. Furthermore, the whole process - from selection to payment and delivery - is secure and takes minutes. Jon Baldachin, CEO of DRML says: "DRML is the first service that enables content owners to provide branded, licensed product direct to consumers or via other retail web sites without losing any control of their content."
Baldachin argues that the new service is vital and timely: "Content owners are already losing substantial revenues and the value of their brands because they have failed to take proper control of their digital packaging, distribution and licensing. You wouldn't leave it to a high street store to decide what your brand looked like or how easy your product was to steal, so why are content owners applying different rules to the web?"
Calmer Classrooms' music has been used to lower disruptive behaviour in the classroom since January 2005. In 2003 the results of a test conducted by The Psychology Department at Worcester University, showed that students retained more information and achieved the highest score whilst listening to Calmer Classrooms music than listening to any other style of music, including classical music and silence. The children exposed to Calmer Classrooms' music performed significantly better - showing signs of alertness and concentration for longer periods of time. The company's customers are primarily schools, but also include parents with hyperactive children and hectic city office managers wanting to calm "stressed-out" workers.
Sue Bains, Head Teacher, Pensnett School of Technology, Dudley, Birmingham said: "The difference Calmer Classrooms has made in my school is nothing short of phenomenal. The incidence of disruptive behaviours has dropped, students are working more efficiently and teacher's stress levels are much improved."
Composer, television presenter and jazz/ folk musician Vo Fletcher, CEO of Calmer Classrooms has years of experience writing and performing activity songs aimed at young people. He says: "We have been delighted by the success of the product and wanted to improve the services to customers and capitalise on international opportunities. DRML has allowed us to do that. Furthermore, independent music companies have to be forward looking if they want to survive, and digital distribution, without loss of control, is undoubtedly the only way forward."
