15. How is the branding done?

1. What is DRML?

DRML is a service developed by Digital Rights Management Limited to provide a set of technologies and facilities that provide any content owner the means to monetise their content. The service is accessed over the Internet and the content owner remains in control of their content - from the point of preparation to the point of sale.

2. What does DRML do?

DRML packages content using a combination of Macrovision's and our own proprietary digital rights management technologies to brand, protect and price it. When packaged, the content receives a file extension of .drml which identifies it as a file that has been prepared with the DRML service.

The packaged .drml can be offered to end-users by simply loading it up onto a website with a link on a web-page. No special technology or access methods are needed - it can even be emailed to an end-user!

To view the packaging, the end-user simply opens the file on their PC after downloading and the branding pages and pricing are displayed locally. The .drml files are opened with the DRML PC Client, which is a piece of software that needs to be installed on the user's PC once only to be able to access any .drml file. The software is freely available from us and can be offered to end-users from your website or they can be directed to our website to download the software

To get a licence for the content, they simply choose a price point and make a payment via our online payment gateway and the licence is delivered directly to the content by our licence server.

3. What can I get out of DRML?

You can create a revenue stream from your content very quickly and easily. It costs nothing to try it out with a basic account and every transaction earns you money!

4. What do I need to use DRML?

You can access all the features of the DRML service with the most common PC skills and office software. Connection to our service can be made from any standard PC with any Internet connection and a browser. The only additional software that is needed to submit content for packaging and collect it after packaging is Microsoft Excel and an FTP (file transfer protocol) client. We recommend a dedicated client like CuteFTP or WSftp, either of which can be obtained through us for under £25.

5. How is my content protected?

Your content is protected by a combination of Macrovision technology and Triple-DES and can only be accessed if there is a valid licence granted to the DRML PC Client on the end-user's machine. The licence is generated uniquely - based on the combination of both the content and particulars of the end-user's machine - at the time of purchase. No two licences are the same!

The content is never "unpackaged" on the end-user's machine but is always kept in its protected state - even while being accessed!

6. My end-user got a message saying the licence database was corrupt?

The most common reason this happens is because the end-user has upgraded the PC. At your request, our support team can supply a utility to the end-user which will correct their licence database on their local machine.

7. What happens after I click "Buy Now"?

A connection is made on the Internet to the DRML payment gateway and the end-user is presented with a choice of convenient payment methods. They just choose the payment method they want (premium rate telephone, credit card, paypal or SMS) by clicking the appropriate button and they will be taken to a payment page for one of our payment service partners. There they follow the on-screen instructions and complete payment.

8. What happens after I've paid?

The payment is reported back to the DRML licence server by our software and a licence is automatically issued to your PC. The content can then be accessed on the PC that the licence has been issued to. All the end-user needs to do is either click the "Launch" button or double-click on the .drml file and the content will be opened.

9. Can I send the file to a friend?

Yes. Just attach it to an email (or put it up on a peer-to-peer site) and include a link to the content owner's or DRML website so that your friend can download and install the DRML PC Client in order open the package. Your friend will also need to pay to access the content.
top

10. Why did I need to install any software?

If you look at the content file, you will see that it ends with the file type ".drml". This is a special file format. The software you installed gives your PC the means to understand the format and manage all your .drml content licences.

11. Do I need more software for other content formats?

No. You only need to install the DRML PC Client software once and any ".drml" content type you receive can be opened - music, movies, pictures, documents, games and so on.

12. Which media player do I need to play the music?

After payment, the music can be played using Windows Media Player 7,8,9 or 10.

13. I have made a payment and received a confirmation, but I cannot access the content.

Make sure you have saved the content to your local drive. The content will not open if you run the file from a network drive.
top

14. How long can I access the content for?

After paying, you can access the content from the time you first open it for the length of licence that you purchased, provided that it is on the same PC that you first downloaded it to. You must pay separately to access the content on more than one PC.

15. How is the branding done?

You create a general HTML template with all your standard logos, links and text. In there you put places where specific information regarding a particular piece of content can be inserted. During the packaging process, we take this template and insert the particular descriptive information and package it onto the content file so that the DRML can display it with the branding, information and price points when the content is opened.

On our server, we provide you with your own special secure directory where your templates can be stored for use during the packaging process.
