The DRML™ Service - Content Packaging and Branding

Overview

First, the content owner prepares finished content (ie in the form that the end user will experience it on PC or Mobile Phone). Second, the content is submitted to the DRML™ service for packaging under control of a DRML™ customer account. Third, the content owner collects the resulting .drml files (ie packaged files) and puts them on a website for sale by download.

This is our digital equivalent of shrink-wrapping a CD in jewel case with sleeve, insert and price tags so that it can be put on a retail shelf for sale.

During the packaging process, the content is married up with pre-prepared HTML splash page templates and the DRML™ process applies a Digital Rights Management package around the content according to the customer's requirements. There are two parts to this packaging process - the preparation of branded HTML splash pages and the production of packaged content.

Branded HTML Splash Pages

A content owner can set up their own house style (or template) for their splash pages. These are basically HTML pages which carry all the owner's (or retailer's) standard branding, information, weblinks, live feeds and promotional materials - ie they are branded pack for content presentation. Within any splash page, special DRML™ tags can be placed where specific information for each content item will appear.

For example, each music track on an album may have a different title, while everything else to be displayed is standard for all the tracks on the album. With a DRML™ tag you can automatically put the title into the branded page for that track.

Packaging Content

Once the templates are ready, a content owner can submit finished digital content (movie, music track, Word document etc.) online via FTP to the DRML™ servers for packaging. The content sent for packaging is described with a batch control file created in Microsoft Excel - which contains pricing information and any product information for each content item submitted (known as the metadata) - and managed online via batch management pages accessed through the customer's account.

The packaging process automatically checks the submission for consistency and completeness and the DRML™ Customer Site provides a Preview facility for the content owner. Once the packaging has been completed to the owner's satisfaction, the packaged content can be collected via FTP for subsequent distribution and/or sale.

How The Splash Pages Are Used

When the consumer (the end user of the content) has downloaded a packaged content file for a PC or Mobile Phone, the owner's splash page is viewed - and every time the content is accessed. This means your brand is always visible and you are continuously marketing to your consumer!.
