Sales Summary
Content is presented to end-users (consumers) via websites, banners, e-mail marketing etc. inviting them to download the content from a retail site. Once downloaded, the end-user can view the branded packaged product, choose a usage price point, pay, receive a licence and enjoy the product.
During the sale process, all of the transaction information is captured to the DRML Service database servers. This allows our customers and their resellers to track and monitor sales. On a regular basis, the databases allow the DRML Service to report and distribute customer revenues.
Retail Access to Content
Because all of the branding, presentation and pricing information can be packaged and encrypted with the content and displayed in the splash pages - any website or Internet link can be used to sell content. All that is needed is a web-page and/or link that an end-user can access which points to the packaged retail content file.
The content can also be attached to an e-mail and the splash page will give all of the details the end-user needs to make a buying decision.
On the End-User's Machine
The content has been packaged in a proprietary format (the file extension is ".drml") which can only be opened with a piece of DRML software - known as the DRML Client. This is a piece of software which must be installed once only onto the end-user's PC or Mobile Phone and thereafter the end-user will be able to view splash pages, buy a licence and access packaged content.
Once end-users have downloaded and paid for the content on their machines, they can access the content with the DRML Client. This displays the branded splash pages and accesses the content for the purchased licence period.
Payment and Licensing
After download, the end-user chooses a price point, clicks a "Buy Now" button and is taken to the DRML Service payment gateway which offers a choice of payment methods. The end-user chooses their desired payment method and goes through an appropriate sequence of steps to complete the payment.
Once payment has been made, the DRML Client will request a licence from the DRML Service licence server over the Internet. The licence is granted, recorded in the licence server and sent to the client which stores it locally in a protected fashion.
After completing the chosen payment process, the end-user simply clicks "Launch" or "Confirm" and the DRML Client will be able to provide access to the downloaded content.
Where a licensing period has expired, a DRML customer can allow the end-user to extend the licence period through the splash page by buying again or by differential pricing with an incentive scheme.
